Workshop A collective stylistic analysis? Yes, please!

In this workshop, after a short introduction to the discipline and scope of stylistics, we will put theory into practice and analyse a poem and the incipit of a novel. Since style is found at all linguistic levels and hinges on many features, members of the stylistic reading group, coordinated by Davide Castiglione, will lead small group discussions with the students on specific aspects of authorial style – from phonology to syntax, from semantics to pragmatic effects. We will then share and integrate the emerging insights in what will be, in fact, a boldly collective analysis. After all, the complexities of style call for the joint work of many minds!
